An Engagement for the (History) Books

EB Horn Engagement

There’s nothing quite like Boston. The vibe, the history and the little quirks found at every turn. Peter and I have lived in Beacon Hill for almost three years now, and we love exploring the historic streets around us. We spend our weekends walking the Charles River Esplanade and through the Public Gardens, sampling restaurants and shops along the way.

During the work week, our commute takes us through the Common and to Downtown Crossing. But before Peter and I kiss goodbye, the last thing we see is perhaps our new favorite slice of Boston: the blue awning of E.B. Horn. It’s not just another landmark, but a reminder of one of the happiest days of our lives.

It all started about four years ago, when Peter booked a Memorial Day trip to Boston. Cue a swipe right and drinks at the Back Bay Social Club and our relationship quickly evolved from dating app to long distance. After making a nearly weekly drive from Connecticut to Boston for close to a year, Peter fell in love with not only me, but the city as well. And the rest, you can say, was history.

A few months after finding the perfect engagement ring at E.B. Horn (with Norm’s help), Peter was able to surprise me one afternoon in December. I, of course, was running late on my way home from Christmas shopping. And since it was frigid out, I told him we could meet at home. But he wouldn’t take no for an answer. We met up in the Public Garden as it began to lightly snow, and walked to where the Swan Boats are usually settled. The pond was frozen over and people were frolicking in the snow. Peter tried to distract me by pointing out the bridge that was all decked out with Christmas lights. That’s when he dropped to one knee.

During that moment it felt like there was no one else in the Public Garden. It was truly one of the most precious moments shared between us, in one of our favorite places in Boston. A place I will never forget.
