Meet the Team – Lorraine Lacolla

When you walk into E.B. Horn, you are guaranteed to see many familiar, smiling faces. As we continue our employee spotlight, meet Lorraine Lacolla, an integral part of the team behind every piece of jewelry sold.
When did you start working at EBH and how did it come about?
I started at E.B. Horn in November of 1983. E.B. Horn used to sponsor internships through our all-girl’s catholic high school in Boston’s North End. Some friends had already continued working there after graduation and at Karen DiRenzo’s recommendation I came on board.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is working with the customers and of course my co-workers – we have been together for over 40 years now! I also love the location because I can walk back and forth to work.
Describe your role in the EBH operations?
I am a credit clerk in our in-house credit department. Maryann, our credit manager and myself process each sale that the sales people make – it is a team effort. Though over the years I have filled every role in the store at one time or another!
What is your favorite style of engagement ring and why?
My favorite style of engagement ring is a classic solitaire…any shape and sometimes diamond enhancement in the setting.
What jewelry trends do you like best? Are there any you do not like?
I do tend to add a trendy piece to my collection. I like colored stone jewelry trends to add a pop to yellow gold and am glad to see “vintage” (what we have always called estate jewelry) making a resurgence recently. I also like the layering trend from the 1980’s. What I don’t like is when it becomes excessive – sometimes, even with jewelry…less is more.
Do you have a personal piece of your own jewelry that is your favorite? And why?
My favorite pieces are from my mother’s 18k yellow gold 1970’s collection. They are pieces I like to build around – Italian bangle bracelets, hammered link chains and such. My favorite piece is her 18k yellow gold Italian Corno, it is the symbol to ward off the evil eye. It was the biggest one available at the time and have never seen another one like it. So that is really my signature piece.
