Meet the Team – Doug Finn

At the heart of it, E.B. Horn is a family business.  Meet Doug Finn. His family has been at the helm of the jewelry institution since the 1940s and he is helping to carry that family legacy into the next generation.

How long have you been working at EBH? Did you always want to follow in the family business?

This December will be my 14th Christmas. I never really thought about working in the family business until after college. I would always work in the store during the holiday season during high school, but never truly had my eyes on working here until later.

What are some lessons your dad taught you in the business?

Dad has always taught me to be patient, kind and honest. Everything else will work itself out.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love that every day is extremely different. You never know who will be coming into the store, or what fun and unusual piece of jewelry we will come across.

What is your favorite type of jewelry?

I personally love repurposing family jewelry. Nothing quite like taking an old sentimental piece of jewelry from a drawer and making it into something beautiful and wearable again!

What is your favorite style of engagement ring and why?

I love the radiant cut diamond in a classic two-tone solitaire setting.

What advice would you give people shopping for an engagement ring?

Take things slow, give yourself plenty of time between your first visit and when you want to actually propose. Bring as many pictures as you have and we will know best how to guide you. Don’t be afraid to come in as a couple at first to educate yourself and try on different styles. Then come back on your own if you want to make it a surprise proposal.
