Summer Lobster Shacks

If you’re anything like us, summers are about chasing sand, sunsets, and, well, seafood. Overflowing lobster rolls. Hearty chowders. Crisp-fried clams. Whatever you’re pleasure, summer just isn’t complete without an indulgence – or many. Fortunately, you’re never too far away – whether you’re taking scenic road trips across New England or staying close to home.

Reservations and fancy pants aren’t required for this journey – but you do want to look just right. So following is a list of the summer locales that have a special place in our hearts (and stomachs), and a few of our favorite corresponding pieces.

Ciao Bella (previously North Square Oyster), Boston, MA

North Square Oyster closed, right? Au contraire. While the restaurant may have been revamped as an Italian eatery called Ciao Bella, your favorite oyster and seafood eats are still available. Ciao Bella kept a small, 10-seat bar to remain as North Square Oyster – so, you better hurry to get one of those coveted seats for some out-of-this-world Boston seafood.

James Hook & Co., Boston, MA (Atlantic Ave)

If you’re in search of the best lobster roll in Boston, look no further than James Hook & Co. Head to this classic joint on Atlantic Ave, and savor your meal overlooking the Boston harbor. The only problem is: how will you possibly be able to choose between their lobster roll, clam chowder, crab cakes, lobster mac & cheese, and so many other perfect options? Never fear – if you can’t get enough, no problem! Place your online order with James Hook and receive their incredibly fresh lobster the next day, delivered straight to your door.

Larsen’s Fish Market, Menemsha, MV

Love living on island time? You’ll never want to leave after tasting a bite from Larsen’s Fish Market on Martha’s Vineyard. Located in the classic fishing village of Menemsha, this summer gem is famous for its incredible lobster, chowder, and steamers. For some post-meal fun, go for a boat ride with Menemsha Blues Charters, or take a stroll to Creekville Art & Antiques to find some hidden New England gems!

Sesuit Harbor Cafe, Dennis, MA

Nothing quite says New England like the conglomeration of rings and buoys fixed on the side of a shingled-summer shack. Settled on the rocks overlooking the Northside Marina, the only thing that makes this spectacular summer spot even better is the mouthwatering menu. Stick with the staples like the lobster roll or oysters, or mix it up with an insanely fresh seared tuna sandwich. Either way, this quaint café is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Roy Moore Lobster Co., Rockport, MA

Bigger isn’t always better, and in this case, we know that to be true! Roy Moore Lobster Co. perfectly embodies the “small but mighty” adage – this quaint shack is constantly turning out lobster and other summer bites throughout the day. Say goodbye to a long wait for that perfect lobster roll, and hello to insanely fresh seafood! Enjoy your meal on their quaint back porch, head down Bearskin Neck (one of Rockport’s many eclectic street names), and take in the view from a classic landmark, Ship’s Mast Light.

The Clam Shack, Kennebunk, ME

If award-winning food is your style, then The Clam Shack in Kennebunk is right up your alley. Don’t be fooled by the stature of the shack: it may be small with only a take-out window, but the lobster served in the takeout containers is nothing short of remarkable. Enjoy the scenery from the bridge overlooking Kennebunk River, and savor the world-famous, impeccably prepared lobster.
