If you ask me there’s no better time to let your inner magpie fly high than during holiday party season. Hell, with it’s frigid weather, grey mornings and pitch-black evenings the entire month of December is practically begging us to brighten things up. The best way to do exactly that? Well, apart from breaking out my collection of incredibly cheesy personalized baubles and stringing twinkly lights from every available rafter I like to wear all the sparkly things.

While I obviously wouldn’t blame you for thinking otherwise  I’d like to point out that I’m not a proponent of wearing all the sparkly things at once – after all, some limits do exist and for good reason too! You see, going all out on your holiday decor is one thing but when it comes to wearing a high-shine piece you’ve got to exercise a little restraint in order to keep it chic. Three things I always suggest keeping in mind . . .

One statement piece is all you need when it comes to standing out for all the right reasons. My go to? The sequin skirt I snagged almost two years ago at Topshop.

Two contrasting textures is always a good idea. Think leather and lace or sequins and super-soft cashmere. FYI; you can’t go wrong with Everlane’s classic cashmere crewnecks, even better yet? They’re just $100!

Three or more items of jewelry is okay as long as you keep ’em simple. I’m talking delicate stacking rings and everyday diamond studs like these ones from E.B. Horn.
